Brown Sugar Cookies

Jessie watched as Molly folded the cookies together.  She sniffed the air and drooled when she smelled the aroma of molasses and brown sugar.  She sniffed again and then walked over to Molly.  Jessie sat close to the woman and nudged her leg with her nose.

Molly looked down.  “You’ll have to wait until the cookies are baked, Jessie.  I can’t wait to try them.  What about you?”

Jessie barked and held up her paw.

“It looks like you agree.”  Molly patted the dog on her head.  “I’ll share when they come out of the oven.  While were waiting I have to write down the recipe for the elves.  I promised Chloe that I’d share.”    Soon Molly had the recipe written out to share with her friends.  Satisfied, Molly opened her blog to add the recipe.  She hoped her readers would enjoy the sweetness of the recipe.

2 3/4 cups whole wheat flour

Brown Sugar Cookies


1/2 tsp baking poser

1/4 tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

1/2 cup melted butter

1/3 cup shortening

1 beaten egg

1/2 cup molasses

1/2 cup brown sugar

2 tsp vanilla

Mix wet ingredients together.  Mix dry ingredients together. Fold dry ingredients into wet ingredients until a stiff dough is formed.  Roll dough into a cylinder in parchment paper and chill overnight.  Remove from refrigerator and cut into slices. Bake on cookie sheets at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 12-14 minutes or until golden brown.
